Answer by Mohit Sharma:

Different companies run these programs in different ways.

As per my 15 years experience in IT/ITES industry, work experience requirement at different six sigma certification levels are

  1. For Green belt it is 5~6 years as people at assistant manager and above are required to do this certification.
  2. For Black belt level it is 10~12 years. Managers and Sr. Managers are selected for black belt roles.
  3. For a Master black belt it is 14~15 years of work experience. AVPs are offered Master black belt roles.

At Green belt level it is a certification and at BB and MBB level it becomes a role where certification is subset of the over all role. All leadership aspects like change management, coaching and mentoring people etc are learned and displayed during the roles. Hence are offered to people with 10 years and above work experience.
